At the beginning of class today, we were given approximately 10 minutes to complete our title slides. Then we walked around the class and looked at other people's title slides. This was useful because we got to make a comparison with ours. I got to grasp some unique ideas. Rab also taught us how to make our slides look appropriate (eg. colour, size, theme and so forth). Basically, for today's lecture, Rab told us all the available features that are present in keynote in order to make our slideshow look good.
Apparently, we may start our presentation starting from next Wednesday or the Monday after that. I am actually quite nervous about this presentation because I will be presenting on my mine!

Blog Post #8
Today we got introduced to using keynote presentation. We first viewed a short video clip that explained a brief introduction to using this new tool. I thought it was quite helpful and grasp a general idea of the system. Rab first allowed to us play around with the Themes and Masters system. It was interesting to view all the different formats that were available! The options seemed endless. Next, I also learned that the system even tells me where the center of the slide is. I think this is a helpful tool because I often have trouble figuring out where to center out my texts. Rab also told us a website called dafont.com to see a whole range of different fonts if we cannot find any fonts that we like from the keynote system (although this is very unlikely because there are plenty of options). The tool that I enjoyed using the most was the "alpha" though. I always had trouble with images that had white background and being unable to use it in my presentation slides. Next, we also got to experiment with charts and graphs. I have not got much experience with making graphs so I had a little trouble with this section. However, I was impressed with all the settings that were available. In addition to all the mentioned applications, we learned how to use transitions, upload videos, and many more. There are almost too many things to remember that I am afraid I am going to forget some of them!
Overall, I found this lecture to be very useful because I will be able to use this system in the future. I personally think that keynote presentation is much better than google because it provides a lot more opportunities and options to be unique with the slideshows.

We watched two other presentations from other groups today. It was a good class because we got to observe other group's slideshows and compare the format and appearance with ours. I enjoy viewing other people's presentation because it allows me to make a comparison with my own.
Rab also taught us about using handouts during presentations. We learned that we could use handouts when there are a lot of information to tell the audience. However, we have to be very careful with when to handout the paper. For example, it is not a good idea to give the handout at the beginning of the presentation because the audience will not have the attention on the speaker. Next, we learned about using the video with our presentation slideshows. Basically, we sound recorded ourselves with the slideshows and listened to it afterwards. I thought this activity was useful because we actually got to listen to ourselves, as well as the other groups' as well. To be honest, it feels very strange to listen to my own presentation! Then, we were told to post these on YouTube so we can all share it and watch and listen to each other.
Overall, I thought this class was useful because we learned how to use the video tools and we even got to listen to our own presentation. I hope to fix my mistakes as much as possible for the next presentation.

*for some reason, I saved this post as draft instead of publishing it, so I am posting this post few weeks late! I apologize*
Today's class was quite exciting! We began the class by presenting our slideshow to 5 people in the class. We also learned a lot of good points about presentation today. Firstly, Rab told us that we need to think about the purpose of the presentation (why we're presenting), the main message (it should be simple, clear, strong, and connected to the purpose, easy to remember and so forth), present the key points (should also have 3 sub key points in order to achieve the purpose eg. weather, climate, money, food, and etc). In addition, we learned that we need to think about our audience beforehand. For example, we have to accommodate our slideshows that it is suitable for our audience. Furthermore, the slideshow should differ between students, teachers, politicians, and etc. In other words, the presentation should be appropriate for the audience. Next, we were told about the technique of predicting any problems beforehand. However, we had to make sure that we cover all central and important message in the presentation. In addition, we also learned that we should not be negative to opposed people. We could simply redirect the question, then cut it off instead since it is our presentation so we would not want our audience to ruin it. Lastly, we learned the CRAP. Apparently, C is for contrast and R is for repetition. That is, we want to repeat something throughout the presentation (for eg. same font throughout).
Today, our class were assigned a presentation to do after returning from our winter break. We were randomly chosen our group of three. We are creating the presentation slideshow using Google Drive. Each member of the group will be working on it during the break and then contacting each other using Google chat or other form of communication as well.
Overall, this course was packed with lots of useful information that I hope to make use of in the near future! And I hope to make our presentation to be an awesome one, too.

Today (January 10), we presented our presentations!
I was very nervous but it was a good practice and a good experience. In the end of our presentations, Rab gave us our feedback so I was able to learn a lot from his tips again. In addition, none of our classmates posted the reference slide for our presentations. Thus, we all learned that reference page is necessary when giving a presentation in order for the listeners, viewers, or the readers to be able to go to the referred link or slide.
Overall, I am glad that I finished presenting our presentation and it was a good practice. I think that giving presentations as often as this class will help me become more confident. I also learned that I have to be more careful with eye contact, because apparently I only focused on one side of the room. I was unconsciously doing this so I am glad that Rab pointed this out to me.

Today, Pat taught us how to use Quicktime Player so that we can view ourselves when we conduct our presentation. I thought this was a very helpful tool because we can actually see how we present. I was able to catch some actions and behaviors that I was unconsciously taking. Overall, I was able to refer back and fix my corrections or mistakes.
Basically, for this class, we were given time to put together our presentation together to prepare for our real presentation on Wednesday.
