On Monday, December 10 2012, we practiced how to give presentations in class.
We learned that there were several points that we should make when giving a presentation.
First, we should give a greeting, thank the audience for coming to watch the presentation, introduce our names, give the topic, give our background history relating to the topic, describe the topics that will be covered, mention that there were be time for a Q&A session in the end of the presentation, and then finally, begin talking about the first topic.
The professor first divided the class into three groups in order to give presentations to each other. Then, he made the groups larger by dividing the class into two next. I thought that this class session was helpful for me because I got to practice my own presentation while listening to others as well. Also, I learned how to make eye contact with the audience because the audience had their hands up until I made an eye contact with them. Finally, we also learned that it is important to build credibility when giving a presentation. If we do not have any credibility, the audience will probably doubt the accuracy of the speaker's presentation.
In conclusion, I was able to learn that there are certain points that should be made when conducting a presentation. I also think it is important that the speaker shows confidence when speaking so the presentation will not be boring for the listeners. As well, it is important to keep in mind that the presentation starts as soon as the presenter is called on and begins walking towards the front of the room. I have to practice this because I always appear so nervous before giving a presentation!
